So, something came on my radar over the last few days, which made me lose even more hope for this year called 2026. How can things seem so bad only 23 days in? And this is something I’d have preferred to ignore, and I was going to ignore it, for the sake of my health both mental and physical, but, I think there’s something important to say about this, so, I’m going to do it, God help me I’m going to do it.
I’m going to talk about the Beckham Family feud.
And yes, this brings up the age old paradox that I’m sure the Ancient Greeks probably talked about extensively. There’s an issue that is better ignored. And you want to explain to people why it would be valuable, and useful, to ignore it. But by advising people to ignore it, you are bringing more attention to the issue, and possibly making the problem even worse. However, after much internal debate with myself, I decided to talk about the Beckham Family Feud, because I believe, the fact that this utterly banal, trivial “issue” is being spotlighted, shows the contempt that mainstream media has for us all. Or, to put it more bluntly, The Media Is Telling You That You Are Worthless:
Ah, ah, he said it, he said it!:
Now, some people might say, isn’t this topic mainly being covered by media outlets that only cover “celebrity gossip” type stories? Wouldn’t complaining about this be like complaining about if Classic Tractor Magazine didn’t cover Trump’s latest attempts to “acquire” Greenland? Now, to be clear, I wouldn’t be as concerned if it was only magazines with names like, “Wealth” and “Extravagance” and “Murdering The Proletariat Weekly” that were covering the latest carry on with the Beckhams, though we could still have a larger discussion of why we even need publications that feel the need to tell us every time Generic Celebrity number 47B-5 gets constipation. My greater worry is that news media outlets that like to portray themselves as real bringers of news that’s really really real felt the need to cover the stuff that’s happening with the Beckhams. I mean, isn’t the Guardian a fearless bringer of actual news that’s genuinely proper news and not trivial news? Well, first an important point about the Guardian. It’s often portrayed as a left wing newspaper, and sure, in comparison to some of the other stuff out there, you could probably say it is. But, what the Guardian is fundamentally, is a centrist newspaper. It is “the white moderate” that Martin Luther King Jr warned us about, in newspaper form. And they thought the Beckham’s family business was important enough to cover, in this really really left wing newspaper that would have made Peter Kropotkin proud:
I think it’s a problem that the Guardian covers a story about how Brooklyn Beckham said his Mam is a ninny, or whatever, alongside stories about Trump’s continued threats against Greenland, Trump’s “Board Of Peace”, an organization he put together to oversee the continued destruction of Gaza, and the terror that ICE is inflicting on the American population. Colonialism, genocide, and state sponsored terrorism are rampant in our world, but, as importantly, Victoria Beckham called her son a silly cad.
What about the BBC? Surely the BBC is a prestigious organization who’s so prestigious that if you were to stack all of its prestigious on top of each other it would stretch from here to the Andromeda Galaxy? Well, the BBC covered the story about, the vapid goings on with the Beckhams also:
https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvg1rxgl80yo
This is actually embarrassing. Again, if it was from a news program called “Vapidness Weekly” it wouldn’t be as embarrassing, but, for an organization like the BBC, that claims to be ever so important and intellectual and importantly intellectual to cover a story about “hijacking the first dance” and “Dress-gate” is just beyond embarrassing, it’s like it’s so embarrassing that I fear it might break the laws of physics in some way. And much like the Guardian, the BBC has also been covering Trump’s Board of Peace, his aggression against Greenland, and ICE. You know, the way a maniac being in the White House is in the same category as, whatever “dress-gate” is.
Reuters has done the same, yep same deal. Various despots threaten the security and freedom of people all over the world, but also, a dress or something:
Our own RTE has talked about it, but that’s a bit different, because, unlike the BBC, I don’t think our own national broadcaster has ever been taken seriously by anyone, at any time, ever:
CNN have talked about it:
https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/22/entertainment/david-beckham-victoria-brooklyn-no-contact
And, ABC news has talked about it:
The Complete Distortion Of Reality
I am deeply concerned about the fact that media outlets that are talking about the horrific “Board Of Peace” are also talking about “dress-gate”. Trump is putting together an organization dedicated to the continued annihilation of Gaza, that Nehenyahu was invited to join:
https://www.npr.org/2026/01/21/g-s1-106641/netanyahu-join-trump-board-of-peace
And since I’m using NPR as a source, I should point out, yep, they covered the Beckham nonsense too:
Vapid, empty stories about what the Beckhams get up to, are being put aside a genocide. Because, really, isn’t the genocide in Gaza just entertainment? Isn’t Trump threatening to take over a peaceful country just entertainment? Isn’t ICE’s continued terrorizing of the American population just entertainment?
It’s all just entertainment!
I’ve concluded that the continued justification of the genocide of Gaza, isn’t just through the use of passive voice and deliberately vague terminology:
But, by placing this genocide on the same level, and the same importance, as some argument the Beckhams were having about a dress, it utterly trivializes the genocide in Gaza. Same for the state sponsored terrorism of ICE. Same for the non-consensual porn chatbot that is Grok. Same for the blood seen from space in Sudan (one of the few times the media actually covered Sudan.) Same for poverty. Same for climate change. Same for racism. Same for the fact that the world, overall, is heading in a very dark direction. Oh, now I’m bored of ICE, let’s see if one of the Beckhams, has the flu or something. So much to entertain us in the wonderful world of 2026!
But hang on, why shouldn’t there also be, less “heavy” topics?
I am not recommending that anyone spend all of their time learning about the genocide in Gaza, the genocide in Sudan, what Trump has done this week or the disgusting ability to violate people’s rights in the most intimate way possible enabled by Grok. To spend all of your time learning about these topics, is just going to send you into a cycle of despair. So by all means, touch grass, as they say, balance learning about the horror of the world with learning about the beauty of the world, and look at this photo of a buzzard I took a few days ago:
I’d actually be happy to see all of the news stories about the Beckhams replaced with heartwarming stories. Like this story from a while ago that gave me such hope for humanity. By all means, replace all the stories about the Beckhams having gout or whatever, with this kind of story:
https://www.corkbeo.ie/news/local-news/hero-cork-girls-save-lives-31815574
My goodness, if all the stories about vapid celebrity shite were replaced with this tomorrow, I’d be extremely happy. A group of youths were throwing a group of baby goldfinches around and trying to stomp on them, but three young girls rescued the goldfinches. It’s such a beautiful story that I think I will carry it with me until the day I die. It shows how, there are small ways, in our daily lives, how we can bring just a little more light into such a dark world. So, more of these stories, please!
So it’s not the fact that what the Beckhams get up to is a “light” topic, that bothers me. It’s more to do with the elitism of the whole thing. If Johnny down the road was having a family feud, would it be news worthy? If Mary from two parks over was having an argument with her son, would it be newsworthy? If Justine from a few miles away was having some argument about a dress, would it be newsworthy? Of course not. But, when the Beckhams have some argument about a dress, that’s more newsworthy than you struggling to pay the bills, or you having a terrifying illness and you don’t know if you’ll pull through, or you wondering if this world holds any kind of future for your children at all. The media considers all of that to be of no importance. But, in our ridiculously, sickening, elitist society, the Beckhams having some family argument, manages to dominate the news for the last few days. The media considers the Beckhams to be more important than you. And the media considers you to be of no worth at all. So, next time you see a story about, Beckham did this, Kardashian did that, eh, other celebrity, did this other thing, look at what that story is telling you. It is telling you that you are worthless. Are you going to take that? I most certainly hope not.
