There’s a part of me that hates arguing that if we allow the genocide in Gaza to continue, humanity as a whole is at stake. Because, I just wish the suffering, and deaths, of the people of Palestine was enough by itself to convince everyone that this horrific mass slaughter needs to stop. One day, I hope to wake up in a world where everyone is mobilized to help an oppressed people regardless of whether there will be negative consequences on the world as a whole if they don’t help.
But, if anyone’s not convinced that the suffering of the people of Gaza is worthy of concern, why not the fact that, if this genocide is allowed to continue, if the perpetrators are allowed to go free, I do believe, humanity is fucked beyond all conceivable belief.
Some people ask, “What about the homeless in Ireland?” While it’s absolutely inexcusable that Ireland has a horrific housing crisis and a homelessness problem, to me this kind of question misses the point. The Irish government is getting away with complicity in a live-streamed genocide. If they’re allowed to get away with that, then getting away with doing fuck all about our homelessness crisis is going to be extremely easy by comparison. And people ask, “What about the other genocides you don’t hear about?” If the genocide in Gaza is allowed to happen unopposed, well, it doesn’t matter if those other genocides are brought to public attention, because it’s possible to get away with a genocide in full view of the world anyway. I’m not just saying I find it frankly, at best weird, and at worst, completely immoral, the way as soon as Gaza is brought up, many people want to change the subject to a different injustice. I’m also saying that, pick any injustice you like, homelessness, genocides that are happening in other countries, climate change, all of the stuff that Trump is doing, if the governments of the world are getting away with complicity in the Gazan genocide, then that sends the message that they can get away with, whatever the want.
The “Respectable” People Cheering On The Genocide
Surely it’s just people on the political fringes who are cheering on the mass slaughter of the people of Gaza? Surely it’s just the kind of people who are, out where the buses don’t run, as they used to say? Sadly, that’s not the case. People who are unapologetically in favour of the insanity that’s being inflicted on Palestine, are “respectable” and “mainstream” and, the former speechwriter to Barack Obama. Have a look at this completely unhinged talked from Sarah Hurwitz.
The former speechwriter to Barack Obama. That’s how accepted by mainstream society this woman is. That’s how much a part of the establishment she is. She’s not a “fringe figure”. And yet, she can get away with saying stuff like this, “You have TikTok just smashing our young people’s brains with video of carnage in Gaza. And this is why so many of us can’t have a sane conversation with young Jews because anything we try to say to them, they are hearing if through this wall of carnage. And I sound obscene.”
What? I mean, seriously, what? She doesn’t sound obscene, she is obscene! She doesn’t even have the excuse, if you want to even call it an excuse, that she believes the genocide in Gaza isn’t happening. She full acknowledges that the people of Gaza are being slaughtered, and calmly states that it is justified!
“Because they learn about big strong Nazis hurting weak emaciated Jews, and they think “Oh antisemitism is like anti-black racism, powerful white people against powerless black people. So on TikTok all day long they see powerful Israelis hurting skinny Palestinians, it’s not surprising that they think, “Oh I know, the lesson of the Holocaust is you fight Israel, you fight the powerful people hurting the weak people.””
Where do I even begin with this? She is objecting to the concept of young Jews taking the position that the horrors that were inflicted on the Jewish people, should not be inflicted on the people of Palestine. She even acknowledges how insane she sounds to anyone with half a conscience, but doesn’t have enough self awareness to realize, that the reason she sounds unhinged, is because she IS unhinged.
Again, if this was some fringe figure with four followers on Instagram, I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. But this is what the American mainstream looks like. This is what the Democrats look like. You know, out of, the two parties you can vote for in America, the party that’s always portrayed as the more compassionate, the more reasonable, and the more moral of the two American parties that dominate the American political system.
And don’t get me wrong, I despise Trump, and I think he along with the Republicans are taking America in a very dark direction. But it’s terrifying to see the Democrats, often portrayed as “the saner alternative” to the Republicans, are just as on board with the genocide in Gaza as the Republicans.
Support for the genocide is mainstream opinion in America.
And speaking of the Democrats.
Let’s hear what Hillary Clinton has to say for herself!
Here Hillary Clinton, a Christian, condescends to young Jewish Americans about how they’re very bold for not agreeing with her. That seems a bit antisemitic. Is anyone going to call out Hillary Clinton for her antisemitism?
Here, Clinton talks about how the young people, including the young Jewish people, oppose Israel because of TikTok! That’s right, it’s got nothing to do with the horrific murder of Hind Rajab, it’s got nothing to do with hospitals in Gaza burning, it’s got nothing to do with the horrifying sight of emaciated people desperate for food, no, it’s all because of TikTok!
Now, granted, Clinton is often seen as a kind of a tryhard desperate to look “cool” and “memeable” and “radical” in the eyes of the yoof. Remember she had that tv show where she hung out with all the cool women? Remember, when the cool women invited her to their party?

So my point is, while Clinton is often seen as embarrassing and cringe, by the young people, and the middle aged people, and the old people, and the supercentenarians, she is nevertheless, a mainstream figure. For someone as powerful and influential as her, to be in favour of the mass slaughter of the Palestinians, is beyond terrifying.
Democrats and Republicans are the only two parties that have been elected in America for over a hundred years. And they both favour the mass slaughter in Gaza.
What About Ireland?
I’m glad that more and more I’m seeing other countries starting to realize that, while the Irish people, in comparison to other countries at least, are good for supporting the people of Gaza, the Irish government, not so much. AJ+ did a video on that subject a few weeks ago:
So how did the “pro-Palestine” Irish government respond to proposals to change the name of Herzog Park, because Chaim Herzog was a president of Israel and guilty of committing apartheid against the people of Palestine? Well, Micheal Martin just used the antisemitism excuse to get out of that one.
Frankly I’m sick of seeing the term antisemitism reduced to absolute meaninglessness. Antisemitism is a horrific evil in our world, responsible for the deaths of six million Jews, murdered by a group of people so twisted by hatred that they believed they had the right to commit mass slaughter on people who’s only crime was being of a different religion and ethnicity.
Margaret Thatcher’s policies hurt a lot of people in Britain. Would it be misogynist to change the name of a park called “Thatcher Park” to a different name? That’s what’s so frustrating about this, I KNOW people understand the concept. Some Jewish people are good, and some are bad, just like some white people are good, and some are bad, just like some black people are good, and some are bad, just like some gay people are good, and some are bad. It is not antisemitic to want to change the name of a park, that was named after a Jewish man who was complicit in apartheid, just like it wouldn’t be homophobic to change the name of a park, named after a gay man who was complicit in apartheid.
I KNOW PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THIS CONCEPT!
So I hope that’s an important lesson about the “Pro-Palestine” Irish government. They “say the right thing” when it comes to Gaza, while secretly aiding Israel, or so it seems. It’s important to realize, as in this case, that there’s only so far they’re willing to go even when “saying the right thing”. Even in rhetoric, they’ll defend Gaza, but only up to a point. And this in a country that is famously pro-Palestine.
What About Britain?
Our neighbour across the water has truly gone beyond the call of duty by making it illegal to protest in favour of Gaza. When I hear about hunger strikes, I think of something that happened during a much more harsh and draconian period of history before I was born. But in Britain there are hunger strikes happening, right now, by people who are desperately fighting for their right to protest in favour of Gaza.
Imagine a government, not just turning a blind eye to a genocide, not just being complicit in it, but, going beyond the call of a most despicable duty, by actually criminalizing protesting against this genocide. Why aren’t Starmer and his cronies deeply ashamed and mortified that the UK government’s policies are so draconian, that some very brave people had no choice but to go on hunger strike?
If There Is No Justice For Gaza, I Believe It Might Be All Over
Israel got away with murdering Hind Rajab, and the Western governments got away with being complicit. Israel got away with the brutal killing of Ayssel and Asser, two twin baby boys and Joumana Arafa, their grandmother, and the Western governments got away with being complicit. Israel got away with a man made famine, and the Western governments got away with being complicit.
So yes, I do believe, if, the genocide isn’t stopped, and those responsible don’t face imprisonment for their crimes, I believe it might all be over.
A live-streamed genocide can’t go unpunished without severe consequences for the rest of humanity. Justice for climate refugees? Forget it. Why should those destroying our planet fear any kind of sanction if they got away with a live-streamed genocide? Justice for the people of Sudan? Forget it. Why should the RSF fear being punished if they see how Israel and the West are getting away with it? (Though it’s important to point out that the United States is complicit in the Sudanese genocide.) But what about the homeless, what about the housing crisis in Ireland? Forget, forget it, a million times forget it. The Irish government is getting away with being complicit in a live-streamed genocide. If they’re getting away with that, why should they have even the slightest fears about facing any consequences, or being made to do something about our horrific housing crisis in Ireland?
So my argument is, I wish all we had to say was, the genocide in Gaza is horrific, and that’s it, that’s enough, everyone should just want to stop it, and that’s that. I wish I didn’t even have to mention how the consequences of the horror in Gaza will spill over to effect us all.
The Future Could Be A Nightmare
I’m forty years old, and when I was younger, I used to mourn being born at this time, because I believed, hundreds of years from now, humanity would put away all of its barbarity, and would basically become advanced enough to create a utopia on Earth. I mourned the fact that I wouldn’t live long enough to see it. A world with no or very little racism. A world of wonderful medical technologies that eliminated all physical pain. A world where nobody had to go hungry. A world where war was a thing of the past.
But now, and it is so painful to think of it, I fear I might be one of the lucky ones. I’m forty, and, it’s deeply unfortunate and horrible to think about, but I wonder, will I be lucky enough to die of old age before our world really takes a horrifying turn for the worst.
I HATE that I am thinking like this.
For the last two years, I saw horror, after horror, after horror, after horror, I went through not being able to process the fact that nobody was stopping it. I’ve seen excuse, after excuse, after excuse for the mass slaughter in Palestine. I’ve seen the absolutely DESPICABLE practice of conflating support, compassion and love for the people of Gaza with antisemitism. Antisemitism is one of the most despicable, blood soaked, hateful ideologies ever created by humanity. Anyone who would trivialize antisemitism by equating it with wanting to stop the horror in Gaza, is frankly, a piece of shit, there’s no nice way to say it.
The 21st century has so far been a century, where Israel can get away with, whatever it wants. And the Irish, British, and American governments have gotten away with, aiding Israel in whatever it wants to do. They CANNOT be allowed to get away with this. Not just because basic justice demands that they face consequences for their actions, but because, if they are not stopped, the process of our world sliding further and further into dystopia and chaos will continue.
What do you think Israel, and those complicit governments will do when they are finished completely obliterating Gaza? Do you think they will do nice things after that? Perhaps they will retire from politics and start rescuing injured puppies?
No, they will do, whatever they want. They will kill whoever they want. They will destroy our planet in whatever ways they want. They will commit the most unspeakable acts of evil. And from their point of view, why not? After all, they got away with it before!
It won’t stop with Gaza. The dangerous precedent of a live-streamed genocide will have consequences, for all of us.
