So, I could write many blogposts, and probably will, about the election of Trump at the end of 2024. The reason I haven’t wrote about it so far is that, I don’t even know where to start. Do I write about how I breathed a sigh of relief when Robert F Kennedy Jr, an advocate of the pseudoscientific idea that vaccines cause autism, stepped down as a candidate for the U.S presidency, but now has been placed as United States secretary of health and human services by Trump? Do I talk about how winner of “Worst Father Of The Year” and all around scumbag Elon Musk has been given the position of Department of Government Efficiency “DOGE”, and now has, of all things, contributed to making the Nazi salute more socially acceptable? Do I talk about the more childish things Trump has done, such as renaming the Gulf Of Mexico as the Gulf Of America, or his absolutely vile attacks on the trans community, such as forcing trans women to have “male” on their passports and vice versa for trans men, basically outing them in countries where their trans status puts them in danger?
Where Do I Start?
But I need to start somewhere. Because a particularly nasty human being occupies the White House, and I need to talk about that.
So today, I’ll be addressing a particular claim that I hear sometimes, and that is, that Trump will be better at ending and/or, reducing the severity of the genocide of the Palestinian people. I think on some level, where this idea comes from, is from the fact that……
Biden was quite bad when it came to Palestine. No, let me rephrase that. Biden was extremely incompetent when it came to Palestine.
No, let me rephrase that again. When it came to Palestine, Biden was a fucking monster.
Biden is very pro-Israel. And that’s not a recent development either. Look at this video of Biden’s statements on Israel over the years:
So yeah, Biden’s worse than Reagan when it came to Israel.
Hang on, did I just say Joe Biden is worse than Ronald Reagan when it came to Israel? The man responsible for such classics as The Iran Contra Affair, and worsening the AIDS crisis?
Yes, Reagan was awful, but, I think an argument can be made that, not that Reagan was good when dealing with Israel, but that he cleared the extremely low bar of being better than Biden when it came to Israel.
Reagan basically got on the phone to Israel and demanded a ceasefire when Israel attacked Beirut:
So, we know how bad Reagan was, we’ve all heard the Dead Kennedys songs (at least I hope you’ve heard them, why don’t you listen to the Dead Kennedys?), and even he was better than Biden when dealing with Israel. So, Biden has blood on his hands. Because we know, from previous presidential interactions with Israel, that Biden could have got on the phone to Nehenyahu, and told him to stop committing mass slaughter in Gaza. That’s not to say it would have automatically ended, Nehenyahu might well have refused to comply, but in the face of, by conservative estimate, 40,000 dead under his tenure, Biden could have done a damn sight more than, NOTHING.
And what about Harris? I’ll admit to being initially excited that somebody other than Biden would be running on the Democrat side, but that hope was quickly, and I mean very quickly, dashed.
Have a look at this video of Biden 2.0 talking:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7_37irQOQ8
If you think it’s offensive for me to regard Harris as a clone of Biden, well, she’s the one who said she wouldn’t do anything different. She just says the usual line of “Israel has a right to defend itself.” She says numbers when it comes to the October 7th attacks, (1200), but does not state the number of Palestinian people who were killed since October 7th. And she puts a human face on the victims of the October 7th attack, “They were just attending a music festival.” Okay, but what about, “They were just trying to get flour so they wouldn’t starve” Kamala? She states that the October 7th attack victims were “massacred” and “raped” but the Palestinian victims were “killed”. Were Palestinian people not “massacred” or were they just killed in a series of bizarre mishaps?
So I think that answers that, Joe Biden was an unmitigated disaster when it came to Palestine, and Biden’s younger, trendier clone would also have been an unmitigated disaster.
Does it follow that Trump will be better? Could it be that the one ray of light of having this psycho in the White House, is that he’ll be better, even a fraction better, on Palestine than Biden/Harris?
I’d love to be proved wrong, but so far it just doesn’t look like it.
Have a look at this video.
Here Trump talks about moving all of the people of Gaza out of their homes to live in some other country. When he’s asked if this amounts to “forcible displacement” he says, “No they’d love to leave, Gaza is full of rubble.”
I don’t know about you, but someone who speaks over the Gazan people, making declarations about what they want without listening to what they have to say, doesn’t strike me as very “pro-Gaza”. So here he is basically saying, “We’re going to move them out of Gaza, but it’s okay, because they want that anyway!” He also is very vague about why Gaza is “a pile of rubble”, just some vague statements about “There’s shooting all over the place” “There’s bombing all over the place on both sides.” Mr Trump, Mr Trump, Mr Trump, could you not take a second, just a second, to acknowledge that Israel had a teensy bit, just a teensy bit, to do with the fact that Gaza is now not the safest place to live, instead of talking about shootings and bombings as if they are a force of nature without any human agency involved?
And then we have, the infamous Trump Gaza video. This video wasn’t made by Trump or his administration, we don’t actually know who made it, but Trump did share it on his social media platform Truth Social:
The video seems to imply that Trump will turn Gaza into, I don’t know, Las Vegas or something? It’s got a lot of weird images of money falling from the sky. Nehenyahu and Trump relaxing by the pool, Musk walking in slow motion while, uh oh, it’s raining money again, I hope they packed their umbrellas!
The video does briefly feature children who are apparently Palestinian, who seem to be benefiting from the money that is falling from the sky, due to the bizarre weather conditions that the Trump administration will cause in Gaza. But they’re not featured much. You mainly see Trump, Musk, Nehanyahu, a giant gold statue of Trump, a terrifying golden Trump head balloon, miniature models of Trump for sale, look we get it, whoever made this video has a weird fetish about Trump being made out of solid gold! So the main point of this video is that, the new Gaza will be a haven for billionaires like Musk and Trump. Doesn’t look like much thought has been put into the welfare, rights, or hopes and dreams of the people of Gaza!
One argument I hear for why Trump might well make things better for the people of Palestine is that, he wants a Nobel peace prize. Nobody disputes that on a personal level, Trump doesn’t care about the people of Palestine, but if he ends the genocide of the people of Palestine, he’ll get the Nobel Peace prize!
I have no doubt that Trump is so egotistical he would be willing to do things that have good consequences, not because he cares about good consequences, if they would mean he would be awarded the Nobel Peace prize.
But here’s the thing. You don’t HAVE to do anything particularity virtuous to be given the prize.
You can get a Nobel Peace prize if you’re Henry Kissinger:
https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2023/12/2/kissinger-a-war-criminal-with-a-nobel-peace-prize
You can even get the Nobel Peace prize if you turned away Jewish refugees during the Holocaust:
https://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2096389_2096388_2096379,00.html
Given the Nobel Peace Prize’s bizarre history of giving the prize to people who don’t deserve it, why would anyone assume Donald Trump would have to do anything good or moral in order to get the prize?
So yeah, he might well get that prize without doing anything particularly virtuous. So I’m afraid the allure of that coveted prize isn’t going to turn Mr Trump into a saint!
But I’ll admit that I have thus far written mainly about the words, as opposed to actions, of Trump, and my speculations about how he’ll act in the future. So the big question is.
What actions has Trump done with regard to Palestine so far?
Have a look at this video:
In this video, Rumeysa Ozturk is arrested. She is Turkish, and was living in America on a student visa, but her visa was revoked because she protested in favour of the Palestinian people. And this isn’t the first time something like this happened either.
Mahmoud Khalil is an activist for Palestine who was arrested and is currently fighting against being deported from the United States.
Khalil’s attorney, Amy Greer, spoke with one of the ICE agents during the arrest, who said they were revoking Khalil’s student visa. When Green explained that Khalil has a green card, the agent said they would revoke the green card instead.
https://apnews.com/article/columbia-university-mahmoud-khalil-ice-15014bcbb921f21a9f704d5acdcae7a8
That is chilling, and I mean that, chilling. That it had just been decided that Mahmoud Khalil was to be deported, regardless of what documentation he had entitling him to residency in the United States. When the ICE agent was informed that Khalil had a green card, they just nonchalantly stated that Khalil would still be deported.
None of this is to argue that Biden, or Harris, would have been better towards Palestine. We’ve seen what happened to Palestine under Biden, and we’ve seen Harris vow to continue with more of the same if elected. So no, I’m not saying things would have been better under Biden or Harris.
But what I am saying is that, I don’t see the argument that Biden and Harris are so pro-Israel (which they are) that Trump is better by comparison. Trump has continued the Biden/Harris way of talking about Palestinians, that they just get hurt or killed somehow, without placing any blame on Israel for this. And if Kissinger, and a man who turned his back on the Jews during the Holocaust, can get a Nobel Peace prize, then so can Trump, without doing anything particularly virtuous.
He has spoken over the people of Gaza, asserting that they want to leave their homeland without asking them what they want.
Trump is so pro-Israel, and so anti-Palestine, that he has created a chilling effect, where anyone living in America but born elsewhere will be afraid to speak up in favour of Palestine. Does it get any more pro-genocide than actively cracking down on the free speech of people who oppose the genocide?
I understand the hope it brought some people to see Biden, possibly one of the most pro-Israel U.S presidents, leave office. But sadly, the evidence is strong, very strong, that Trump will do pretty much the same as Biden, he’ll just do it for slightly different reasons.
The genocide of the Palestinian people has been going on for close to a year and a half, and it will continue to go on under Trump. The only thing that can stop it, is people from all over the world, coming together and saying no more. This mass slaughter can be brought to end, but first, the idea that an unhinged, deeply egotistical monster like Trump will do anything to help the people of Palestine needs to be put to rest.
Whether there’s a Republican or a Democrat in the White House, this insane mass slaughter needs to be stopped!
